Iconic entertainer returns to dance music
“I Blame Stormy Daniels And All Those ‘Married Men!’”
Historic #1 talk show host, national TV personality, Author, Comic, Karel (Charles Karel Bouley) wears many hats, but he’s brushed off his dancing shoes for a searing return to the scene with his remake of the Bette Midler Disco hit “Married Men” (Aug. 27, 2019 all Streaming). The single features Karel on lead vocals, longtime collaborator Thea Austin (Snap! Rhythm Is A Dancer) on backgrounds and incredible remixes by Leo Frappier/House of Frappier.
Karel has spent the last 25 years as a trailblazing openly gay #1 Talk show host in the #1 and #4 markets in the USA as part of Karel and Andrew Live on KFI Los Angeles. and then the Karel Cast on KGO Am 810 San Francisco. The entire ride is in Karel’s diverse and impressive biography.
But singing came first and started in the Gay Clubs for Karel as he gathered a following across the world with a successful string of independent Dance Hits in the 1990s first on his own label, Orbik Records, and then for Jellybean Benitez on Jellybean Recordings and SAIFAM/The Factory Team Italy. It was during that time that he, and others, successfully rallied NARAS to put a Dance Category in Grammy, a category on which Karel still proudly votes annually. He’s toured opening for Grace Jones and countless others of the day, sang with Bronski Beat and his cover of Sylvester’s “Don’t Stop” for the Factory Team charted internationally.
Currently on TV and Podcast, why return to Dance music?
“It’s time to use my ‘other’ voice again. There’s a lot of piety out there when it comes to marriage and fidelity, but with the grabber in Chief we have, well, as the song says, the World is Full of Married Men! I saw Stormy, Mein Trumpf, and I thought, ain’t that something, AGAIN with the affairs! I called Thea, we went in my home studio, we gave the acapellas to Leo, and, I’m back! When Bette went to war with Trump, it made the release inevitable!”
The new version is an homage to Disco, while the House of Frappier Club Mixes bring the song in to 2020 and beyond. A video is being filmed in Karel’s home of Las Vegas on Aug. 14th for a late August release. “Look for fun surprises in the video,” Karel added.
“Married Men is just the beginning. Next, I’m covering the crazy talented Morgan Mallory’s ‘Rise Up’ as full Gospel House, it’s crying out for it. Blue Magic’s ‘Sideshow’ is ready to go and is an exact cover, again, with a video that will speak to mass shootings, politics, the sideshows of the day that are horrifically heartbreaking. I wrote a new song I wanted Anastacia or Emeli Sandé to record, ‘I Am The Proof’ while watching Blaisley-Ford testify to no avail to stop another predator from the Supreme Court, but I’m going to sing it. Get the theme? Dance music can make people think, and move, at the same time.”
Karel just finished a complete physical transformation, losing 110 pounds as part of a plant based diet and quitting opiates and is launching The Planted Host TV show, book and program. “So,this fits right in…I want to give them something they can dance to, to help them get exercising again, as America and the world needs to move more!”
