That last comparison is not a precise accounting total—the supplemental package includes some non-war spending and may overlap with costs already incurred—but its scale is staggering. The request alone nearly equals what the federal government spends on SNAP for an entire year.
At a time when millions of Americans are struggling to afford food, housing and healthcare, why can Washington find nearly $90 billion for another war—but not comparable resources to fight hunger and poverty at home?
